The LookOut

Angus Ritchie | Daniel Tyler

LookOut was a 2014 Strathclyde Student Architecture Masters project, funded by Scottish Government’s Scenic Routes initiative.

Lookout explored the act of learning through doing – something that architecture students rarely do: build things.

Angus and Dan spent many long hours building the original Lookout which sat here at Monachyle for two years, entrancing everyone who experienced it.

What was originally intended to be only a summer-long installation became a very popular destination and after suffering two winters and partially submerging in Loch Doine, the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park commissioned a more durable version of the LookOut. to Angus and Dan’s design.

The LookOut provides a unique experience to view the stunning landscape at Monachyle, its reflective surfaces drawing people to look in all directions, to sometime just look at themselves or to just sit in one of the seats and contemplate the vista that unfolds.
